The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is the oldest state-supported military college and one of six senior military colleges in the United States. Unlike any other state military college in the United States, all VMI students are military cadets. VMI offers cadets a spartan, physically demanding environment combined with strict military discipline. Cadet guided tours are nearly always offered daily. The 12-acre parade ground is dominated by the Barracks which is a National Historic Landmark.
